Close-harmony jazz - Boswell Sisters

Today's discovery - although they are apparently well-known: wonderful stuff:

Great singing, great musicality, great arrangement - humour and syncopation!

And it's real jazz.

Here is some more virtuosity:

And some swing...

A wonderful, unique and innovative group! A favorite of mine is their version of "It's The Girl". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRumsSXlNK0

It's good to see someone else has discovered the Boswell Sisters!

They do a wonderful version of Harry Warren's 42nd Street https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3FpFHejr-w
Then there's Irving Nerlin's Alexander's Ragtime Band

And of course Cab Calloway's Minnie the Moocher's Wedding Day with the Dorsey Brothers

You can find the entire 5 volume set of the Boswell Sisters Collection uploaded to youtube. I recommend the original Nostalgia Arts CD's if you can get them, but it took me several years to track them all down. There's also the Storyville reissue, but it's somewhat lackluster in comparison.
