Thanks to Lawrence Auster

*

Just to note my thanks to Lawrence Auster of the View from the Right blog

http://www.amnation.com/vfr/

who is dying from disseminated cancer.

His work made a difference to my own view of things, his honesty and courage have been inspiring - and indeed continue to be in his final days.

Even such is Time, which takes in trust
Our youth, our joys, and all we have;
And pays us but with age and dust,
Which in the dark and silent grave,
When we have wandered all our ways,
Shuts up the story of our days:
And from which earth, and grave, and dust,
The Lord shall raise me up, I trust.

I was going to send you a personal note today Bruce thanking you for making an immeasurable difference to my own views. But I think I'll just post it as a comment here instead. Several bloggers, but you in particular, brought me back to faith in God through Christ.

I think it was your background in academia, science, and the quality of your ideas and thought processes that made me take my relationship with God incredibly seriously and take steps to correct it.

Know that what you are doing is important and serving Him. So if Auster brought you to where you are today, I must thank him as well.

@MC - thank you very much!

"So if Auster brought you to where you are today, I must thank him as well." That would be overstating the facts. But, for example, I first encountered Father Seraphim Rose excerpted on the VFR blog, I came across Jim Kalb also (who later wrote a blurb for my Thought Prison book), and the ideas of Kristor Lawson (who is now a penfriend) - all that kind of thing, as well as LA's own relentless critique and lucid descriptions of such phenomena as the 'unprincipled exception'. And LA's up-front Christian faith showed how to root social critique in fundamentals. Indeed I have much to be grateful for...

Although I have been critical of you (here and elsewhere) about...a certain topic, I hold you in high esteem anyway, and I believe you have had a decisive influence on me. Thank you and may God bless you.

@Co-Op- Thanks very much.

By the way, nobody agrees with me; so you are in good company.
