Christians need to understand God (and in fact do understand God) sufficiently in order to love Him

*

That's it really.

*

And this should not be forgotten as the most important thing to emphasize - and not the line about the ultimate incomprehensibility of God - which is true, but not distinctively Christian and quite likely to mislead.

  1. That the created need to, or ever could, understand the creator, is about the biggest delusion the created could possibly have.
    Understanding is of the mind.
The mind is not the tool for the job.

...Except for the revelation of the incarnation of God as Man - so now we know, and understand sufficiently.

Only the Spirit of God can comprehend the thoughts of God. But now we have received the Spirit of God!! We have the mind of Christ. The mystery has been made manifest. Wisdom has become flesh amd dwelt among us. The Light of the world has come. That we might understand not everything about God, but everything freely given to us by God! Eternal life, grace, a new heart, a spiritual family, and the glory of a King of Kings.
