What does it *feel* like to be creative?

I'd be curious as to your thoughts regarding creatives existing, and not particularly thriving, in stifling environments; say for instance a government bureaucracy. Or creatives surviving or failing in relationships. Or tendencies towards narcissism or co-dependency.

What makes you think the phenomenology you describe is experienced only by some minority of the human population? I suppose it's a question of how much this disposition dominates one's day-to-day experience, but I don't think (or wouldn't like to think) the experience itself is rare or beyond all but a few people. I don't mean to interrogate -- I'm curious how one would arrive at this particular conclusion.
