At long last, Colin Wilson's completion of The Outsider, his second and probably the deepest of his books - Religion and the Rebel (1957) has been republished; with the Kindle edition at the affordable price of ten pounds.
I have written about RatR; and John Fitzgerald has been reading it recently, for the first time - both of us rate it highly and place it as one of Wilson's very best.
That's good news. I bought a used copy recently, at your suggestion, after I finished The Outsider. I'm only in Chapter 2 of R&tR, but so far it's just as bracing as The Outsider, but I feel it's getting closer to the real point.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Outsider; it helped me understand the point of many things I'd read before (Sartre, Nietzsche, etc.) and draw out the common threads I hadn't recognized. At the bottom of it all is clearly a search for the transcendental, often ironically by people who don't believe in the transcendental but must have some recollection of it nonetheless.
