One of my favourites of Joplin's in a truly wonderful performance that just keeps getting better throughout.
The synopations in the final measure between the descending bass (I have always supposed this downward movement was the 'weeping' aspect of the willow) and the the melody are delicious; and when Rifkin does this double-time in the bass during the repeat, it adds a further excitement.
Aside, Rifkin plays this on a Baldwin SD-10 grand piano - and it is one of the very best intruments I have ever heard; with a mellow and concentrated, rich and springy tone - especially strong in the bass.
