"None are safe 'til all are safe"

If WmJas Tychonievich is allowed serially to update us on his silly dreams - I don't see why I should not be extended the same privilege.
One major reason I am such an early riser is that if I don't get out of bed I am afflicted by sillier and sillier, more and more annoying, increasingly repetitive dreams.
Today, I nipped this in the bud by escaping what was shaping to be one of the silliest: a dream about a new UK national government campaign called The Great Enhorsement - which was intended to get more people to take-up horse riding.
That's it. Make of it what you will - I shalln't.
Sorry, I'm not much of a dream interpreter, but I had a good laugh. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOkay . . . but what role do seagulls play in the Great Enhorsement?
ReplyDeleteGulls are not corvids of course, but Spenser links them (I think): "yelling mews and seagulls hoarse and bace, with cormoyrants and birds of rauenous race."
By chance, or perhaps morphic resonance, I am working on a post at the moment which I have chosen to illustrate with a random and unrelated picture of some waterfowl -- gannets, in my case.
Also: Can we call the RCMP "law enhorsement officers"?
@Wm - There is no (conscious) link between the picture and the text - two jokes.
ReplyDeleteThe first illustrates that the birdemic leads to pecking of humans.
I could not find a good picture of corvids attacking, or I would have used that; but gulls were feautured in the original birdemic movie: Hitchcock's The Birds. I found the pic lastnight I wanted to use it - so added it to the written-today Enhorsement post.
I could have posted picture and text separately, but I did not take account of your compulsive desire to link every-thing; or that Americans need to have unobvious humour explicated...(!)
I think Enhorsement is probably a newly invented word, with this meaning - since it has only previously been used as a pun-on/ misprint-for endorsement.
If I may offer a tentative explanation?
ReplyDeletethe Great Enhorsement = the Great Reset + Endorsement (the govt endorses all this that is happening)
horse riding = Horse stands for Nag, the Govt keeps nagging you into getting on their ride to a bio-fascistic state
Horse, through free association of words, lead to horse-shit = lies
I think your dream just plays on words, like many dreams do
I mean it's not a terrible idea.
ReplyDeleteAlso, those gulls are angry! One is even carrying a boulder.
I thought the subtext was that you'd have to pretty "gullible" to get pecked!
ReplyDeleteAargh! - the puns, the puns.
ReplyDelete(Collapse of stout party, bleeding from ears...)
That sounds plausible. Electric car charging fiasco destroys the grid - BoJo's solution is to get everyone riding horses again. 100 gorillion pounds is mostly spent importing tiny ponies so children can ride to school and the rest is spent on leaflets delivered by messenger pigeons.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's prophetic! There would be worse things to do with taxpayers' money than spend some of it on teaching them (more) about horseback riding, and giving them oppoertunities to practice... if they did it safely, and not in a way likely to produce innumerable deaths and 'euthanatizable' injuries (on second thought, I hope it isn't prophetic... a world-wide "Great (re-)sit to Horse", would almost surely be the opposite of what, properly conducted, could be excellent).

@DLD - Instead of horses; my home city has a plague of subsidized, council-promoted orange electric scooters littering the streets; which are slow, weather exposed, and can only be used for short journeys: just for 'fun'. (Search e-scooters, Newcastle upon Tyne).
ReplyDeleteIn other words, they - like bicycles, only more so - are energy-consuming, idleness-inducing substitutes for walking.
But somehow - because they are electric (and electricity just happens by magic) this is supposed to be a good, because environmental, thing - which ought to be encouraged...
this horse thing is quite synchronous
