I didn't think it was possible for bird poop to enhance anything, but I have to agree with you here -- the droppings do actually add to the aura in this case.
I don't recall having seen this statue during my occasional day visits to Newcastle from Morpeth when I lived in the North East. Now that I have seen the photo, I wish I had seen the statue in real life. Moreover, I wish I hadn't seen that blasted Angel of the North!
@Frank - There is another rather similar (stylistically) St Geo. statue near the Haymarket metro - after the battle with George's foot on the dragon's head.
But there aren't any clear photos I can find online; these (5th and 6th of the pictures) are as good as any, but you can hardly see the dragon:
