The ancient symbolisation of light (and white) for goodness used to be more than just symbolism. In the ancient past symbols were also realities, directly.
There was then a necessity about goodness manifesting as white light, and about the power of white and light imagery to form and shape effective intention.
Light made good.
What I'm saying is that Light really used to more than "imagery" or a concept; and when light was used in religious imagery or architecture, scripture or ritual; or when light was the focus for prayer and meditation etc - doing-this actually had a positive effect on the world.
I think that this effect of Light was still a factor in early twentieth century, and especially when deployed in a heightened form (for example, in The Lord of the Rings) - but the power of Light to have a positive effect on the world dwindled through the twentieth century to its current very low level.
Light no longer works the way it once did; as a mode (or vehicle) of transforming for the better, of defeating evil, and making good.
This is part of the generic phenomenon of losing the ability to to Do Good in any centralized and top-down or strategic fashion.
Just as politics is now always allied with evil (at best, a lesser evil) - so the old "physics-like" ways of describing God and the divine (such as light, energy, force etc) are ineffectual and indeed actively misleading.
From now goodness is, and ought to be recognized as, personal.
Goodness is done not by shining a beam of good light onto the world, or anything at all like that; but instead person-to-person, being-to-being - including relationships between us and divine and spiritual beings, and the resurrected dead.
