This-world is for those who choose to follow Jesus

This-world is for those who choose to follow Jesus

"Follow" literally, that is: follow Jesus to resurrected eternal life in Heaven.

But for everyone else, this-world really is that meaningless and miserable waste of time which modern 'culture' supposes it to be.

Yet for those who shall follow Jesus (no matter how small and obscure they may seem to be); insofar as it was loving and creative - mortal life will be known in retrospect to be an endlessly challenging, exciting, and heroic business.

Oh yes, and this is evident in sci-fi novels, where the harder and more brilliant the science fiction, the grimmer and more nihilistic is the outlook on life and human relationships, especially marriage or would-be marriage. I'm thinking specifically of Greg Egan and Ted Chiang.

  2. @Ron - As I eventually realized in my own life; such authors are not (as they suppose) making a "discovery" about the real nature of life; they are (in effect) merely recognizing (after a circular process of reasoning) their own fundamental prior *assumptions* about the nature of life.
