The basics of Christianity (as I see them)

God created the universe, we are God's children, and he loves us completely.

God's greatest wish is that we should eventually grow to become divine and choose to dwell with him.

Jesus is fully-divine and also (like us) a child of God. The birth, death and resurrection of Jesus therefore made a path which all humans now follow into eternal life.

When he died, Jesus took away the sins of the world. This established the power of repentance.

So that when we repent our wrongs, we will be washed clean.

We end-up with all the benefits of having been alive and none of the disadvantages; every human life can be safe, and life can only do us good.

All this is a gift - we are free to accept or refuse it.

Bruce,

Beautiful and concise. Warmth washed over me while reading it. We need more sensible simple reminders like this in our lives.

Bruce,

How about Hebrews 6:1-2 as a good, summarizing verse on the basics of Christianity?

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

I was trying to make things comprehensible to the outsider. I don't think I understand those verses!

I understand Hebrews 6, and I still wouldn't say its a good summary of basic Christianity.
